News From Turkey lnitially, it is foreseen that at least 360 million cubic meters of natural gas per year will be obtained from Akçakoca, that is, approximately l /3 of the annual natural gas requirement in Ankara. Turkeyis preparing to use the natural gas found in Düzce-Akçakoca offshore next winter. The natural gas explorations by the partnership of Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO) and Madison Oil, of the USA, around Akçakoca offshore are proceeding in a promising manner. At the first stage, it was planned to open 7 wells, however, after discovering a higher potential, they decided to increase the number of wells to 20. it is intended to first release to the transmission line of Petrol Taşıma AŞ. (BOTAŞ) in October, that is, bringing onshore, and to use this gas as of next winter. Currently, it is calculated that at least 360 million cubic meters wlll be obtained from Akçakoca per year. This figure corresponds to approximately l/3 of the annual n a tural 1 gas requirement in Ankara. <j--J The "Turkish Caspian - Black Sea Oil & Gas Conference iV and the TUROGE 2006 Fair" was held between March 28 and 30 in Ankara. in TUROGE 2006, the security of the straits and the Samsun-Ceyhan by-pass project was emphasized. The conference was officially hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and was supported by the TPAO, Türkiye Oil Geologists Association (TPJD), BOTAŞ, Turkish Chambers of Architects and Engineers - Chamber of Geophysics Engineers. in the conference, the global and regional energy demand and offer was reviewed, the installation and development plans tor pipe lines were discussed, oil and gas transportation and possible projects, the means of developing oil and gas exports, developing the transit oil paths from Turkey, and the updated matters about the oil and gas projects were discussed. During the TUROGE 2006 Fair carried out in paraııeı with the conference, 70 domestic and international companies from 20 countr i es, operating in the fields of oil and gas transportation, welding equipment for pipe lines, pipe !ine control systems, and valves and fittings attended. İZGAZ burned the natural gas torch in Alikahya with a ceremony. in the ceremony, the Metropoliten Mayor İbrahim Karaosmanoğlu said that the people in the city are no ıonger deprived of natural gas, Mayors from İzmit and severaı citizens attended the ceremony. Particularly, the housewives from Alikahya showed great interest. One of the most colourful ceremonies was held in Arslanbey. The protocoı members sang songs and danced before the torch ceremony held at the Atakent region, and the children loved the balls and hats they were given. Değirmendere, a popular city located at the south of the İzmit Gulf, was two have two happy events that doy. The Çınarlık Square, renewed by the Metropoliten Municipality was opened, and the torch, indicating that the entire town received naturaı gas, was fired.
